WHO ARE WE

The Melody Girls of Ukraine exists since 2010 in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine. In the very beginning the group consisted of 25 girl students and formed a POP choir. A few years later the number of girls was reduced to 12 and only because of the start of the war the group went to its present number 0f 10. At the same time, it became a female POP group.

In spite of the war, the group consisting now of 7 singers and piano, cello and guitar, has every Friday evening rehearsals in the shelter studio underground and making music helps them to survive the war.

The group is preparing concerts in Germany and England with western all time hits and with their own arrangements made around the polyphonic voices of the group. The concerts will place the music in the center but also will give personal experiences of the girls, being more than 4 years in wartime.

The Melody Girls will continue and will not be stopped.

 

WHAT WE WANT TO ACHIEVE

Ukraine is a country where music plays a very important role. The folk music as well as the church choirs are all over the country and very many young people are singing or playing an instrument from their very youth on. Of course, the war has great influence on this as many young people have left the country. But nevertheless, there is still a very active music life and rehearsals and concerts continue. The music universities are still very active and girls and boys apply for a study in music.

But the international support that was rather well developed got less during the last years and concentration became more on Ukrainian music again with the consequence that students missing the opportunity to get into contact with Western music and Western musicians. Let alone with the history of Western pop music. This is a big omission but also a big pity.

Those that decided to stay in Ukraine and support their country are missing more and more contacts with Western musicians and get behind in musical training because of limited functioning of the music universities. Our Foundation takes care of these problems.

WHAT WE OFFER OUR MELODY FELLOWS?

The girls that we invite to become a Melody Fellow have reached almost a semi professional level and are at a music university, in high level choirs or developing by strong self-study. But above all, they want to develop themselves further as fast as possible. Circumstances beyond their own control make is that their development is not optimal. The Foundation gives a solution. Melody Fellows get the opportunity to get extra lessons from a top professional teacher that they would otherwise never get and there will be one or more summer courses organized in Europe ( probably Holland)  that gives them the opportunity not only to improves their  music skills very much but also to meet many European musicians and gain enormous experience.

The courses will be guided and selected by a Dutch choir conductor who also is well known for his arrangement in between pop music and choir music. The Melody Fellows therefore stand under constant guidance and have optimal the possibility to make courses as useful as possible.

Depending of the development of the individual Melody Fellow, the concrete situation in Ukraine and the preferred direction the Fellow desires, a further strategy and schedule will be made.

Essential is the constant guidance by the mentioned conductor in Holland and a Kyiv based professor on the music university and two senior professional musicians ( voice and piano) to guarantee that the developed strategy will be realized in the best way.

 

THE AGREEMENT

In order to have a clear understanding of the rights and obligations of the Foundation and of the Melody Fellow we have an agreement that defines the length of the cooperation as well as the projected plans for further improvement of the skills of the Melody Fellow and which targets will be set as end result. It also explicitly mentions that there are no costs to be carried by the Melody Fellow.

 

SPONSORING AND DONATIONS

The Foundation works with modest means but will be able to achieve good results with it.  A new Fellow will only be admitted if the funds are available to facilitate what is agreed. The Foundation will be very pleased to receive sponsor money from as well individuals as companies ( ANBI registered ). And  it might be possible to give sponsor money for a specific target or for the development of a specific Melody Fellow.

It will be agreed what kind of sponsoring is the most effectful whereby the relation with the Melody Girls of Ukraine will be a good guidance.

Donations are of course very welcome and the Foundation is thankful for each amount it will receive.

All funds received will be used for the development of the Melody Fellows and only necessary costs will be deducted.  There will be no payment to directors.

 

FINANCIALS

Yearly there will be a statement available which will give a detailed oversight of the income and costs of the Foundation. An accountant will make a check of the quality of the financial statement.

There will be as well a thorough explanation and accountability of the funds spent by the Foundation, highlighting the development and musical growth of the Melody Fellows.
